Pitbulls have gained a negative reputation in the world of dog breeds, being unfairly characterized as aggressive and dangerous creatures that can go off at any moment. Lara, a Pitbull, was discovered abandoned near the port of Nafplion in Greece. The person who left her not only deserted her in an isolated location but also tied her to a tree with no access to food or water. Left to fend for herself, Lara was undoubtedly frightened and vulnerable. To make matters worse, locals were aware of Lara’s predicament but were too intimidated by her breed to approach her. It is unknown how long Lara was left tied to the tree, but it was later revealed that she was pregnant when found. In the woods, scared and alone, Lara gave birth to four beautiful puppies.
Lara, despite being deprived of sufficient food, managed to take care of her puppies for a prolonged period of ten days amidst immense pain and hardship until her rescuers located her. Although no one in the neighboring village was willing to take ownership of or provide care for Lara, a kind soul alerted an animal welfare organization about her plight. Upon receiving the information, the organization dispatched rescue workers to search the woods for the tied-up dog who was undoubtedly suffering. On finding Lara, the rescuers were taken aback to see her in such a malnourished and dehydrated state. But what shocked them even more was the sight of her little puppies jumping around merrily. Lara had been an exceptional guardian and protector, providing nourishment to her offspring with whatever little she could find, all while being restricted to a tree. It’s remarkable how inherent maternal instincts can manifest even under harsh conditions like these.
Despite the mother’s valiant efforts, the five young pups had a tough time during their first ten days, and sadly, the runt of the litter didn’t survive. However, thanks to their brave mother, the remaining four puppies were able to pull through. The heroic team that rescued the dogs eventually found a loving foster home for Lara and her puppies. Linda from The Orphan Pet organization stepped up to help Lara and took wonderful care of all four of the tiny pups.
After being rescued and taken in by Linda, Lara struggled with shyness and had a hard time trusting her new owner. Even the “mamma dog” was affected by the trauma and refused to eat. However, as time passed, Lara slowly began to understand that Linda was there to help and she started to feel more at ease in her new environment.
It’s a great relief to know that the entire family is doing great today. It’s amazing that this story has a happy ending, isn’t it? Although all dog breeds can be great companions, Lara’s remarkable strength and loyalty truly make her stand out.
